The Evil Dead franchise has long been a female-forward horror franchise and that’s despite Bruce Campbell typically leading the lead. Ellen Sandweiss, Betsy Baker and Theresa Tilly from Sam Raimi’s original The Evil Dead have been collectively dubbed “The ladies of The Evil Dead,” and the 2013 remake gave us a new iconic character in Jane Levy’s Mia.

Evil Dead Rise full movie brings Alyssa Sutherland and Lily Sullivan into the mix as the newest females of The Evil Dead, and Sutherland has shared an stunning photo on Twitter over the weekend. Sutherland and Sullivan recently got together with remake star Jane Levy, the trio getting a shot of them together as the latest “Evil Dead” blood sister.”

To be clear, Jane Levy is NOT featured in Evil Dead Rise, so don’t get too excited about the picture. It’s a funny personal photo from a recent hangout between Three Evil Dead actors.

Is it possible to believe that it’s been ten years that Fede Alvarez’s Evil Dead was released?! Lee Cronin’s Evil Dead Rise is coming exclusively to theaters on April 21 2023.

Here’s the official plot synopsis of Evil Dead Rise…

“In the fifth Evil Dead film, a road-weary Beth visits to her sister Ellie who has three children on her own in an uninviting L.A apartment. The sisters’ reunion is cut short due to the finding of a mysterious book hidden in the depths of the building that gives rise to flesh-possessing demons, and thrusting Beth into a gruelling struggle for survival as she confronts the most frightening version of motherhood imaginable.”

The chainsaw and shotgun (particularly Ash’s “Boomstick”) have become iconic weapon in the Evil Dead franchise. We’ve seen them in the Evil Dead Rise marketing material the two weapons are featured in the upcoming film, but there’s also a brand new weapon that’s in the mix, and it’s bound to become a popular choice for fans. Meet Staffanie.

Lee Cronin’s Evil Dead Rise relocates the franchise away from the traditional rustic cabin in the woods to the Los Angeles apartment building. This is where Ellie (Alyssa Sutherland) lives with her three kids: Danny (Morgan Davies), Bridget (Gabrielle Echols), and Kassie (Nell Fisher). While their aunt Beth (Lily Sullivan) is in town to visit and a Necronomicon appears and hurls its evil directly into Ellie. Since she is the only adult in the game, Beth takes charge, but the kids do what they can to stop their own mother’s enmity, including little Kassie. Her weapon of choice? A homemade creation she calls Staffanie which is a mix of dolls and a sharp staff.

While in Austin for screenings of the movie’s SXSW premiere, Cronin took the time to sit down for an extended interview for Collider and also highlighted Staffanie in the non-spoiler portion of our discussion. When he explained how he managed to strike an incredibly balanced balance between sheer terror and quintessential Evil Dead humor, he employed Staffanie to illustrate.
